The male soldiers building a radar base in the Arctic are not coping well with their isolation. They dream of being somewhere else, get into fights, tune out, or show other effects of stress. To boost their morale, Army psychologist Lt. Vicki Loren (Leigh) suggests choosing one by lot to have a “perfect furlough,” a three week leave designed to suit the soldier’s fancy. The winner is handsome Cpl. Paul Hodges (Curtis), who chooses to go to Paris with his favorite movie star, Sandra Roca (Cristal). With his buddies vicariously anticipating his weeks of unrestrained pleasure, Paul sets out for France. Because Paul has a reputation as a ladies’ man (his record indicates he was sued for breach of promise by his high school teacher), and to restrain his conduct, Vicki is ordered to act as chaperone. In Paris, Paul is thrilled to meet beautiful Sandra, who is receptive to his advances, and Vicki has difficulty keeping Paul and Sandra out of bed. Romantic bedlam ensues and eventually the furloughed corporal and the attractive psychologist fall in love. Screenplay by Stanley Shapiro.
